Location
North Kazakhstan region is located in northern Kazakhstan, occupies the southern edge of the West Siberian Plain and part of the Kazakh low hills.
Straight distance between the extremities from the North to the South is 375 km, from the West to the East is 602 km. Relief. The biggest part of the region is located on the southern edge of the West Siberian Plain, where the surface level is not more than 200 meters and refers to the ancient lake of the Neogene plateau, which occupies the big space between the valleys of the rivers Tobol and Irtysh.The space between the rivers is layed by the surface composed with thick clay soils of Neogene age and have lake origin. In the north-eastern part of region stands out the system of the large closed salt lakes basins: Kalibek, Ulkenkaroy, Teke, Seletyteniz. Insertion of the basins is 40–60 m, while the lakes are shallow. In the basin of Lake Teke there is the lowest point on the surface area (29 m above sea level).The highest mountain is Zhaksy Zhangyztau (731 m)The South-Western part of the region belongs to the Kazakh low hills (Sary-Arka) and represented the north-western part of Kokshetau hill. |
